InnoDB is a database storage engine for MySQL databases, which is used by widely used open-source script-based software applications such as Magento and Joomla 3. It is ideal for scalable applications, because it works remarkably well when processing huge amounts of data. Instead of locking the entire table to add new information to a database as many other engines do, InnoDB locks only one row, so it can execute a lot more tasks for the same period of time. What’s more, InnoDB offers a better database crash recovery and supports database transactions and foreign keys – a set of rules that define how data inserts and modifications should be handled. In case a specific operation has not been fully completed for whatever reason, the action will be rolled back. Thus, the information in the database will be kept safe and sound and will not be partially mixed with newly imported content.

InnoDB in Shared Hosting

InnoDB is offered with all our Linux shared hosting by default, not upon request or as a paid upgrade, so you can install and run any open-source script-driven application that needs the MySQL database engine without encountering any difficulty as soon as you open your shared web hosting account. InnoDB will be selected automatically as the default engine for a specific MySQL database during the app activation, irrespective of whether you take advantage of our single-click installer or create the MySQL database and install the application manually, provided that the app requires it instead of the more popular MyISAM engine. We’ll maintain regular backups of all your MySQL databases, so you can be certain that you’ll never lose any data if you erase a database by accident or you overwrite some vital info – you’ll just need to notify us and we’ll restore everything back to normal.
